According to a new technical market research report, Medical Robotics And Computer-Assisted Surgery: The Global Market (HLC036E) from BCC Research the global MRCAS market was valued at nearly $2.2 billion in 2011 and should reach nearly $2.4 billion in 2012. Total market value is expected to reach nearly $4 billion in 2017 after increasing at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.6%.

The U.S. accounted for more than two-thirds of the global MRCAS market in 2011, a share that BCC expects to remain nearly steady through 2017. Europe is the second-largest geographical market for MRCAS, with a little less than 24% of the market in 2011, declining to 22% in 2017. The Asia-Pacific region is the fastest-growing market, with a 2012-2017 CAGR of about 17%.

Surgical robots dominate the global MRCAS market, accounting for around three-quarters of the market. Surgical navigation systems, the second-largest equipment segment, are projected to lose market share between 2011 and 2017. Intelligent operating rooms and surgical simulators/planners should likewise lose market share over the next five years.

Endoscopic surgery is the most important application of MRCAS equipment worldwide Other types of MRCAS applications are gaining in importance, however, notably orthopedic surgery. Orthopedic applications of MRCAS are expected to more than double their market share between 2011 and 2017.
