GPU controller cuts output capacitance, power dissipation

Normal001151805142106311.1282000The MAX17409 is a single-phase step-down controller for powering NVIDIA(R) GPUs. Its active voltage positioning dynamically lowers the output voltage in response to load current, reducing output capacitance requirements and power dissipation. The load current is sensed at the controller’s output to minimize noise sensitivity, and can be sensed using a current-sense resistor or the dc resistance of the inductor. The MAX17409 is well suited for NVIDIA GPU core supplies, notebooks/desktops/servers, or as a general voltage-positioned step-down converter. The switching frequency is adjustable from 200 to 600 kHz, allowing designers to optimize for efficiency or component cost/size. This device also features overvoltage, undervoltage, and thermal-fault protection circuitry. The MAX17409 is available in a space-saving, 4 x 4 mm, 28-pin TQFN package with an exposed backside pad. It is fully specified over the -40° to 105° C temperature range. For more information, visit Maxim Integrated Products.
