LDO Controller Boasts Low Dropout at 7 A

Vishay Intertechnology’s SiP21301 LDO controller uses an external n-channel MOSFET to limit dropout voltage to less than 50 mV at currents up to 7 A, while achieving 80% efficiency. The controller offers an adjustable output voltage, as well as fixed 1.2-V and 1.5-V output options.

The SiP21301 is well suited for use in systems that have a high surge current upon turn-on and very low dropout voltage requirements. The SiP21301 features programmable inrush current protection on start-up, short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and undervoltage lockouts for safe operation of the IC and the external MOSFET. The device provides a low operating current, a low standby current, and 1% output-voltage accuracy. Available in an MSOP8, the SiP21301 is priced at $0.34 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
