ICs for BLDC Motor Drives Range Up to 300 W

Aug. 16, 2019
Power Integrations' BridgeSwitch family of integrated half-bridge ICs eliminates the need for heatsinks in refrigerator compressors, HVAC fans, and other residential, light commercial applications.

Power Integrations' BridgeSwitch family of motor-drive ICs offers a 98.5%-efficient solution for brushless dc (BLDC) motor drives up to 300 W. The integrated half-bridge (IHB) ICs eliminate the need for heatsinks in refrigerator compressors, HVAC fans, and other residential and light commercial applications, says the company. This helps save energy and space while reducing system bill-of-materials (BOM) cost.

A design guide and a code library are now available to help design engineers exploit all of the benefits of the product:

Hardware-Based Motor Fault Protection

According to the company, BridgeSwitch doesn’t require software to protect the system against fault conditions like stalled motor, disconnected motor phase, or running overload. The device meets IEC60335-1 and IEC60730-1 safety standards, and enables the use of Class A safety software per IEC60730-1 guidelines, cutting certification time in half.
