Renesas Technology America’s R2A20101 synchronous dc-dc converter is a fast-responding power supply for digital consumer electronics products, and battery powered handheld devices. Intended for point-of-load operation, this converter IC delivers up to 650 mA of output. Higher current levels are made possible by an on-chip parallel-operation function.
The R2A20101 dc-dc converter produces an output voltage change in response to a load fluctuation in only 5 μs. To achieve this fast load transient response, the device uses a new current-feedback method for output voltage control, helping to ensure reliable system operation.
No external parts are required. The device has a power supply voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V and operates at PWM switching frequencies as high as 2 MHz. It achieves 92% power conversion efficiency with a 2.5-V input and 1.8-V output.
The R2A20101 converter also includes a voltage-tracking function and supports the execution of various kinds of sequence control. It is available in a 4-mm x 4-mm QFN as well as a 1.96-mm x 1.26-mm chipscale package (CSP). Both models are available now and priced at $1.50.
