OPERABLE VIA an input-voltage range from 2.7 to 5.5 V, the AAT3176 flash driver IC and AAT3351 white LED driver IC from Advanced Analogic Technologies are designed to extend battery life and reduce product footprint in cell phones. Available in a 2.2 × 2.2-mm, 10-pin TDFN package, the AAT3176 is said to be 20% smaller than comparable devices and supplies up to 500 mA output current. The dual-mode charge pump maximizes power efficiency by supporting both 1X and 2X operation and is programmable across 16 distinct steps via the company's patented S2Cwire™ (Simple Serial Control) interface. DELIVERING AN output up to 4 A and 6 A, respectively, the MAX15038/MAX15039 synchronous dc-dc converters from Maxim Integrated Products operate at switching frequencies from 500 kHz to 2 MHz, enabling compact, all-ceramic-capacitor designs. User-selectable, fixed-frequency PWM, and pulse-skipping modes ensure high efficiency during light loads, while integrated low-resistance MOSFETs maximize conversion efficiency at heavy loads. The MAX15038/MAX15039 converters deliver a conversion efficiency of over 94% at 1 MHz to suit a variety of point-of-load applications such as those found in telecom, networking, storage, and server equipment.

- 20-V Power MOSFETs
THE SI7615DN TrenchFET Gen III 20-V p-channel power MOSFET from Vishay Intertechnology achieves ultra-low on-resistance — 3.9 mΩ at 10 V, 5.5 mΩ at 4.5 V, and 9.8 mΩ — that translates into lower conduction losses to enable the device to perform switching tasks with, according to the company, less power than any previous p-channel power MOSFET on the market. In addition, the MOSFET's 3.3- x 3.3-mm footprint requires one-third the PC-board space of the PowerPAK SO-8 or other SO-8-type packages.
The company also states the MOSFET represents the lowest on-resistance ever achieved in the PowerPAK 1212-8-type package. The Si7615DN will be used as the adapter switch, as well as for load-switching applications in notebook computers, netbooks, and industrial/general systems. Adapter switches (switching between the adaptor/wall power or battery power) are always on and drawing current.
The Si7615DN joins the company's recently released 20-V p-channel TrenchFET Gen III Si7137DP in the PowerPAK SO-8 package. To meet the needs of individual applications, the p-channel TrenchFET Gen III packaging options offer designers a choice between the maximum drain current and power dissipation of the PowerPAK SO-8 (60 % and 75 % higher, respectively, than the SO-8) or the space savings provided by the PowerPAK 1212-8. BLOCKMASTER ELECTRONICS CGF series of female connectors is designed to eliminate unintentional contact between PCB elements.
