Low Profile, High Efficiency AC/DC Supplies

EOS Power has released the (M)WLP120 Series of medical and commercial high-efficiency ac/dc products. The 120 W power supply is packaged in a small 2 x 3 x 1.18 in. profile and delivers 16.94 W per cubic inch. It features standby Power less than 0.3 W; MTBF over 3 million hours; -40 degree start-up; thermal shut down; and forced air 100 W convection rating.
500-Watt AC/DC Power Supply

North Atlantic Industries recently announced the 56TS1, a rugged, ac/dc power supply. With multiple input configurations, configurable output voltages, and Current Share as standard features, this design is suited for diverse mission-critical air, land and sea applications. This COTS unit provides full-power at a baseplate temperature of +85° C.
It features include:
- Standard output voltages: +12Vdc, +24Vdc, +28Vdc or +48Vdc
- Current Share, with Share OK monitoring

Thin Film Precision Chips Are Sulfur and Moisture Resistant

Stackpole has developed a series of thin film precision chip resistors that are resistant to the effects of both sulfur and moisture. Typically thin film nichrome resistors have difficulty withstanding high humidity environments under low power. Stackpole's proprietary materials and processing protects the nichrome element and performs as well under high humidity testing as much more expensive technologies such as tantalum nitride film chips.
In addition, resistors that have printed palladium silver inner terminations are susceptible to contamination by sulfur causing resistors to open. Stackpole's termination material minimizes the effects of sulfur, making it reliable under a wide variety of environmental conditions.
65W to 80W Adapter Power Supplies

TDK Corporation recently announced the TDK-Lambda DT62D and DT80D adapter power supplies compliant with level VI efficiency standards. Suitable for a test and measurement, communications and industrial applications, the adapters meet the new stringent average efficiency and no-load power regulations, mandated by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Accepting a 90 to 264VAC input, the 65 to 80W adapters are available with 12V to 48V outputs and can operate in ambient temperatures up to +70°C for the DT62D and +60°C for the DT80D models. In addition to satisfying Level VI with an average efficiency of greater than 89% (DT80D) and 88% (DT62D), with an off-load power draw of less than 150mW (DT80D) and 210mW (DT62D), the products also meet CoC V5 Tier 2 requirements.
Power Transformers Offer 4KV Isolation, Low-Voltage Step-Down

Triad Magnetics has introduced the VPM Series of medical-grade toroidal isolation transformers offering both 4KV of dielectric isolation and low-voltage step-down. The series is rated from 25VA to 10KVA, 50/60Hz. Additionally, they are offered with resettable over-temperature protection. VPM Series 25VA-2.5KVA VPM transformers come with input taps for 100V, 120V, 220V and 240Vac. Models are offered with voltage outputs of 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48 or 120Vac.
24-Bit SAR ADC Achieves 145dB Dynamic Range

Linear Technology Corp. has introduced the LTC2380-24, a zero latency 24-bit 2Msps successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The LTC2380-24 features an integrated digital filter that averages 1 to 65,536 conversion results real time, dramatically improving the dynamic range from 101dB at 1.5Msps to 145dB at an output data rate of 30.5sps. This makes the LTC2380-24 suitable for seismic, medical and many other applications demanding high dynamic range.
Using an on-chip digital filter to average conversion results, the LTC2380-24 eliminates the processing burden from the digital host, conserving digital resources and the associated power. Moreover, the LTC2380-24 allows results to be read out with a serial clock as low as 2MHz, easing interfacing to microprocessors, enabling use with slower devices. The LTC2380-24 achieves true 24-bit noise performance and features high DC accuracy with a maximum INL of ±3.5ppm while dissipating 28mW from a single 2.5V supply.
Bipolar Lead-Acid Battery with Conductive Plastic Plates

Integral Technologies Inc. has demonstrated a prototype 12v lead acid bipolar battery with its patent pending ElectriPlast plates. The plates are lightweight and can also be made as a 'drop-in' replacement for some existing quasi bipolar plates. Bipolar technology eliminates the use of top lead to connect the plates. These characteristics allow the technology to be applied in other sectors such as motorcycles, golf carts and forklifts. However, the applications for bipolar plates are not limited to transportation, as the bipolar technology can be used in stationary applications including flow batteries that are being developed to improving grid efficiency and for fuel cells for baseload power.
10W TRIAC-Dimmable, Constant Current LED Driver

Phihong recently announced a new series of 10W TRIAC-dimmable, constant current LED drivers for residential lighting applications. The new PDA010N Series LED drivers provide energy efficient, flicker- and shimmer-free performance for a wide range of residential LED fixtures, including indoor and outdoor fixtures, downlights, and architectural lighting. The new series is also compatible with most leading edge, trailing edge, and smart dimmer technologies.
Rated for 10W output power, PDA010N Series LED drivers are available with three constant current outputs (350mA, 700mA, and 1000mA), and are designed to operate using 108 to 132VAC and 0.25A input power to deliver 78% efficiency at 120VAC with power factor correction of 0.9 and total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 20%.
