Designed to improve performance while lowering costs in DSP-based embedded systems are a pair of digital signal processors: models TMS320C6202 and TMS320C6211. At 2000 MIPS, the TMS320C6202 is suited for systems such as wireless base stations, voice-over IP gateways, remote access servers, and other multi-channel and multi-function communications applications required to pack more channels and expanded services into DSP subsystems. TMS320C6211 delivers 1200 MIPS at nearly $0.02 per MIPS, opening possibilities for use in low-cost, embedded client applications such as ADSL modems and advanced imaging. The TMS320C6211 is available now and the TMS320C6202 is planned for release in Q1 of 1999. Both devices will be offered in the new, 27-mm BGA package.
