DC Power Supplies Feature Modular Design and Flexible Voltage

AMETEK Programmable Power has introduced the Sorensen ASD FLX Series with a new modular design that allows easy access and flexible voltage assignments. The water-cooled ASD FLX Series, which offers industry-leading power density (30 kW in a 3U form factor), can now accommodate up to three front-loading modules that can be configured for either 60V or 40V operation (other voltages coming soon) via convenient rear panel dip switches. Despite its 3U size, the ASD FLX's light-weight chassis allows for easy one-person installation.
The new modular Sorensen ASD FLX Series provides excellent load transient response with outstanding output ripple and noise specifications. Load regulation for both voltage and current is 0.1% of full scale, and the maximum RMS noise is 40 mV. A 50% step load will recover to within 0.75% of original value within 1 ms. Programmable filter bandwidth of the output voltage, current and power monitors lets users customize the load response to their applications.
Small SMD Power Inductors

Sumida CD30D22 Series Power Inductors are designed for use in portable devices and DC-DC converters with high-density power circuitry. The magnetically unshielded design is based on a ferrite drum construction with an exclusive core geometry. This design allows higher inductance values than many other coils of similar volume. The CD30D22 measures just 3.6 x 3.0 x 2.2 mm, with about two-thirds of its footprint devoted to circuit contact area.
Inductance values range from 1.0 µH to 270 µH over 21 parts. DCR is as low as 28.7mW (typical at 20 °C). Current handling capabilities are also above average, with a full-rated temperature range of -40 to +125 °C. Applications include DC-DC converters, switching power supplies and regulators, boost converters, buck-boost regulators.
Round and Square Hole Cage Nuts

Orion Fans now offers round and square hole snap-in cage nuts. Orion's OCN Series snap-in cage nuts mount equipment into square or round holed 19-inch racks. The black zinc-plated cage nuts allow for a better strength-to-weight ratio than threaded holes, and provide the flexibility to mount anywhere with metric or SI bolts.
The round and square hole snap-in cage nuts are designed for mounting Orion's speed controller, programmable thermal controller, and AC/DC 3-, 6- and 9-fan tray cooling solutions in enclosures, cabinets, racks or ventilation hoods. The OCN Series cage nuts are available in M6, 10-32 and 12-24 thread sizes.
High Power Digital Inrush Current Controller Reference Design

IXYS Corp. has announced a new reference design, High Power Digital Inrush Current Controller. It is based on Zilog's 8-bit Z8F3281 microcontroller, a member of the Z8 Encore! XP F6482 series of microcontrollers and IXYS high performance power semiconductors.
This reference design demonstrates IXYS' Digital Power Control technology at high current levels and introduces high current MOSFETs with current mirror sensors in the company's proprietary Surface Mount Power Device package. The load current can be up to 10A while the input voltage ranges from 80VAC to 240VAC with efficiency as high as 99.4 percent. The controller can be used to develop a number of power management applications, including high power ac-dc rectifiers, ac-dc battery chargers and ac-dc Power Factor Correction converters.
250W DC-DC Converters Provide 3.3V to 24V Output

TDK Corp. announces the introduction of the 250W rated TDK-Lambda i6A series of non-isolated DC-DC converters. Capable of operating from an input voltage of 9V to 40V, the step-down converter delivers an output voltage that can be adjustable from 3.3V to 24V and output currents of up to 14A. The series is designed to be used in a wide range of applications including medical, communications, industrial and test and measurement equipment.
The converters can be used in conjunction with a single output 12V or 24V AC-DC power supply to generate additional regulated high current outputs, with or without battery back-up.
With efficiencies of up to 98%, power losses are minimized allowing the products to operate in harsh ambient temperatures of -40°C to +125°C even with low airflow requirements. The need for external output capacitance is reduced due to an optimized dynamic voltage response, thus reducing board space requirements.
Isolated Power Switch Platform Provides Automation Control

Semtech recently announced its Neo-Iso Isolated Power Switch Platform with the addition of the TS13101, a new galvanic isolated intelligent power switch. The TS13101 is optimized for compact Internet of Things (IoT) low-voltage applications such as smart thermostats, security, intelligent sensor control and other home automation systems. Other Neo-Iso offerings can control power line voltages for smart plug, light switch and industrial applications.
The TS13101 provides fault and diagnostic data to microcontrollers, enabling more robust systems with a self-diagnostic capability. The Neo-Iso family comprises a series of intelligent power switches that control resistive and inductive loads while protecting sensitive system circuitry from voltage surges and transients. They replace components such as electromechanical relays (EMRs) in these applications, deliver a faster turn on/off time of 25 microseconds, and provide a field-tested life cycle that is orders of magnitude higher than existing electromechanical technologies. Ultra-low primary current in the range of 5-10 microamps allows the system to power itself by tapping energy from the load, avoiding the need for a secondary power source.
3.3V CAN Transceivers for Satellite Communications

Intersil recently introduced a radiation tolerant 3.3V controller area network (CAN) transceivers that are fully QML-V qualified and compliant with the ISO11898-2 physical layer standard. The three new ISL7202xSEH CAN transceivers provide reliable serial data transmission between a CAN controller and CAN bus at speeds up to 1Mbps. Up to 120 of Intersil's ISL7202xSEH transceivers can be connected to a single CAN bus to reduce cabling/harness size, weight and power costs.
The ISL72026SEH, ISL72027SEH and ISL72028SEH 3.3V CAN transceivers leverage Intersil's proprietary silicon on insulator process, which provides single event latch-up and single event burn-out (SEB) robustness in heavy ion environments. Intersil’s CAN transceivers are low dose rate tested up to 75krad on a wafer-by-wafer basis, and apply single event transient (SET) mitigation techniques to reduce system level bit error rates. They are also cold spare redundant capable, allowing the connection of additional unpowered transceivers to the CAN bus. This mission critical capability maximizes system life.
Multiple Output Regulator with Buck-Boost Capability

Allegro MicroSystems recently announced a new power management IC that uses a buck or buck-boost pre-regulator to efficiently convert automotive battery voltages into a tightly regulated intermediate voltage, complete with control, diagnostics, and protections. The unique buck-boost design of Allegro's A4409, allows sub 5 V input voltage operation to accommodate the latest automotive idle-stop requirements. The output of the main switching regulator supplies two 5 V LDOs, one at 300 mA and the other at 200 mA. Designed to supply power to microprocessor/DSP plus sensors, transceivers, and other loads, the A4409 is suitable for automotive control units.
The Enable Input to the A4409 is compatible to a high-voltage battery level (ENBAT). Diagnostic outputs from the device include a power-on-reset output (NPOR). Long-term system reliability is increased by the use of dual internal bandgap voltage references, one for regulation and one for fault-checking.
