Ultralow Power Buck Regulator Achieves Industry's High Power Conversion Efficiency

Analog Devices Inc. introduced an ultralow power buck regulator that extends battery life in portable devices with ultra-light-load power conversion efficiency. With a 90 percent efficiency rating and consuming only 180 nA quiescent current, the ADP5301 buck regulator is designed to deliver maximum power for a longer period of time than previously achievable. It is ideally suited for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, including wireless sensor networks and wearable devices such as fitness bands and smartwatches.
1MHz, 2A DC-DC Buck Converter Enables Efficient, Small Form-Factor Designs

The AP3402, AP3419 and AP3429 DC-DC step-down converters introduced by Diodes Incorporated operate from inputs of 2.7V to 5.5V to supply loads up to 2A. A high switching frequency of 1MHz reduces the size of external components, ensuring a small circuit board footprint in end-equipment such as TVs, monitors, set-top boxes, routers, notebook PCs and security systems.
A 100% duty cycle allows the devices to work with the lowest VIN and a low quiescent current of just 90µA helps conserve the life of battery-powered equipment. The devices also feature an integrated soft-start that prevents damage as the output switches turn on while integrated over-current and over-temperature protection (OCP and OTP) protect both the system and the IC from damage under fault conditions.
Auxiliary and Standby Power Supplies with 725 V Flyback ICs

LLC Controller With Current Mode Control and Synchronous Rectification

Fairchild Semiconductor launched its new FAN7688, an advanced LLC resonant controller with Synchronous Rectification (SR) that provides best-in-class efficiency for isolated DC-DC converters. The unique features and superior efficiency of the FAN7688 enables manufacturers to improve the reliability and efficiency of the power supplies for server, telecom, industrial, PC and TV applications.
The FAN7688 utilize current mode control, as opposed to voltage mode control, which is traditionally used in other LLC solutions. This allows for tighter and faster output regulation against load transients and also simplifies the control loop, which makes designing it into power supplies easier than traditional LLC resonant controllers.
10A Fully-Integrated Synchronous Boost Converter

Texas Instrument's TPS61088 is a high power density, fully integrated synchronous boost converter with a 11mW power switch and a 13mW rectifier switch to provide a high efficiency. The TPS61088 has wide input voltage range from 2.7 V to 12 V to support applications with single cell or two cell Lithium batteries. The device has 10A switch current capability and is capable of providing an output voltage up to 12.6 V.
The TPS61088 uses adaptive constant off-time peak current control topology to regulate the output voltage. In moderate to heavy load condition, the TPS61088 works in the pulse width modulation (PWM) mode. In light load condition, the device has two operation modes selected by the MODE pin. One is the pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode to improve the efficiency and another one is the forced PWM mode to avoid application problems caused by low switching frequency.
Chip Slays Vampire Power in Appliances, Lighting, and Industrial Equipment

The latest power-supply chip from STMicroelectronics meets the international specification for zero standby power and efficiently manages the wake-up function in appliances such as white goods, in lighting, and in industrial equipment. ST's new VIPer0P IC helps reduce wasted power and CO2 emissions by enabling effective zero-power standby in appliances such as clothes dryers, washing machines, dishwashers, coffee makers, and microwaves. The chip can also be used in lighting controls, industrial appliances, and air conditioners.
High Efficiency, Highly Integrated 8A and 3A Synchronous Buck Regulators

Intersil Corporation announced five new highly integrated synchronous buck regulators that step-down 5V rails to point-of-load (POL) inputs as low as 0.6V for FPGAs, DSPs and microprocessors. The feature-rich ISL8018 delivers up to 8A of continuous output current from a 2.7V to 5.5V input supply, while offering up to 97% efficiency and higher integration than competitive devices. The 2 x 2mm ISL8003x family of devices delivers up to 3A of continuous output current from a 2.7V to 5.5V input supply and offers up to 95% peak efficiency for delivering general POL conversions in telecom, cloud computing, industrial, instrumentation and medical equipment.
2A Multifunction LDO Regulator with Adjustable Output Housed In Ultra-small Package

Torex Semiconductor has launched the XC6230 series of 2A high-speed multifunction LDO regulators with adjustable output. The XC6230 series are small and fast LDO regulators with a maximum output current of 2A and an adjustable output voltage and current limit value. An internal 0.17W low ON resistance P-ch Tr. and a stable output voltage with small dropout voltage make these products ideal for post regulators (DC/DC rear-stage ripple removal), various types of microcontrollers, regulators for logic applications, and secondary power supplies. The XC6230 series can also be used in consumer electronics, industrial equipment, communication modules, and electricity smart meters.
Robust Automotive Linear Regulator IC with 50 V Load Dump Rating

Allegro MicroSystems announced a new, AEC-Q100 qualified, linear voltage regulator IC with control, diagnostics, and protection features that address requirements of automotive applications. Allegro’s A4481 regulates input voltages between 5.25 to 40 V, down to a 5 V ±1% accurate output voltage, and is able to supply up to 50 mA of load current. This new device is designed to power sensors, low power microcontrollers and transceivers in interior and underhood automotive control units.
300mA, AEC-Q100-Compliant LDO Targeted At Automotive Applications

Micrel Inc. announced a new automotive AEC-Q100 qualified high-performance low-dropout voltage regulator (LDO) featuring an ultralow dropout of only 100mV at 300mA. The device features 300mA guaranteed output current and is available in numerous fixed output voltage options of 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 2.8V, 2.85V, 3.0V, and 3.3V. Other features include an initial precise output voltage accuracy of ±2 percent, low shutdown quiescent current of 0.1µA, thermal shutdown and current limit protection.
6A Synchronous Step-Down DC/DC Converter with Digital Power System Management

Linear Technology announced the LTC3815, a high efficiency 6A monolithic synchronous step-down DC/DC converter with an I²C-based PMBus interface for digital power system management (PSM). The digital interface provides programming and read back of voltage, current, temperature and faults. This interface allows the output voltage to be margined over a ±25% range with 0.1% resolution. The default output voltage is set with a single external resistor and will power up to this voltage with or without the serial interface.
The LTC3815 builds on our popular line of PSM controllers and multichannel managers by offering a monolithic device for lower current applications. Its input operating supply voltage range is from 2.25V to 5.5V making it suitable for operation from 2.5V, 3.3V or 5V rails or from lithium-ion batteries. The output voltage is programmable from 0.4V to 72% of VIN or can be set with an external voltage reference making it ideal for intelligent energy power conversion, ASIC/FPGA power, distributed power and point-of-load applications.
Synchronous Buck Regulator Includes a Smoke-Free Function for Superior Protection

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor announced the release of the AOZ3053, a 5A EZBuck DC/DC regulator with smart mode adaption functions, available in a thermally enhanced exposed pad SO-8 package. The AOZ3053 is a high efficiency synchronous step-down regulator with PWM switching frequency of 500kHz and input voltage range of 4.5V to 18V. Leveraging AOS's co-package EZBuck design, the AOZ3053 integrates a 55mW high-side and 15mW low-side MOSFET, and provides 5A of continuous output current at over 90% efficiency and maintains it at 85% efficiency while in 10mA light load operation.
