A dual-input battery charger IC for single-cell Li-ion applications, Intersil’s ISL6299 is capable of operating from inputs as high as 28 V. The charger accepts power inputs from the USB port or desktop cradle/ac adapter, while protecting portable devices from high-input voltages and minimizing temperature rise during charging. The ISL6299, which integrates the pass transistor, features a fixed 380-mA USB charge current and a programmable cradle charge current up to a maximum of 1 A. When no input power is attached, the chip draws less than 0.5 µA of leakage current off of the battery.
The charger IC features Thermaguard charge current thermal protection, charge indication and adaptor present indication. The device features end-of-charge (EOC) programmability and EOC latch. Available now in a 10-lead, 3-mm × 3-mm DFN package, the ISL6299 is priced at $1.30 each in lots of 1000.
