Maxim Integrated Products MAX8805Y/MAX8805Z are 600-mA PWM stepdown converters designed for multiband WCDMA/NCDMA applications. The devices integrate a 60-mΩ bypass MOSFET that provides 1.5 A of peak current. Each device automatically enters bypass mode if the required output voltage is within 92% of the input voltage. The user can force the IC into bypass mode using logic. The 7.5-µs slew rate of the output voltage ensures margin to the CDMA-required 50 s. The devices also include two low-noise LDO regulators. Available with either a 2-MHz (MAX8805Y) or 4-MHz (MAX8805Z) switching frequency, both devices are available in a 16-bump, 2-mm × 2-mm × 0.7-mm wafer-level package. The FDD8424H from Fairchild Semiconductor is a complementary 40-V MOSFET module that provides dual DPAK packaging and thermal dissipation. Optimized for half- or full-bridge inverter designs, the FDD8424H is suited for LCD-backlighting. The integration of a p-channel high-side MOSFET and a n-channel low-side MOSFET into a single package allows a common drain connection within the device. Both RDS(ON) and gate charge are low for good switching performance. Pricing is $0.69 for 1000 pieces.
LCD Bias Generator
The TPS65165 power-management IC from Texas Instruments is an LCD biasing IC that integrates three 50-MHz operational amplifiers to effectively control gamma correction and the VCOM power supply. The IC generates all three voltage rails for TFT-LCD displays (VS, VGL and VGH) and supports output voltages up to 18 V while operating at a 600-kHz fixed frequency. Other features include a 2.5-V to 6.0-V input-voltage range and high-voltage stress testing. The IC is available now and packaged in a 40-pin 5-mm × 5-mm QFN. Induction Motor Design Kit
Powerex's recently introduced BCIM reference design kit features a board and a parts kit containing a three-phase ac induction-motor controller at its core. Designed to provide an interface between the controller and Powerex IPM design kits, the BCIM board provides PWM signals for the IGBTs in the three legs of a three-phase inverter plus a brake signal. The BP7B is a complete isolated interface circuit for six- and seven-pac low- and medium-power Powerex L-Series IPMs. The BP7B circuit features the VLA606-01R optical-interface IC for isolation of control signals and isolated power supplies for the IPM's built-in gate drive and protection circuits. Harsh-Environment DC-DC Converter
Century Electronics' model DC500 dc-dc converter provides up to 560 W of output power with 90% efficiency. The converter operates at 28-V input in accordance with MILSTD-704 Magnetic Isolation. The power supply is unaffected by time, temperature or radiation, as the feedback circuit does not use opto-couplers. A primary-current-sense transformer and a secondary-output current-sense resistor are used for output short-circuit and current-limit protection, creating higher reliability. Soldering is not required for interface connection with the module, as D-type input and output connectors are used. The input connector is an integral part of the six-side shielded-EMI input filters. Two-Phase Input Power Supplies
Automation Systems Interconnect's line of two-phase-input, DIN rail-mounted power supplies — the CSB and CSW series — have been designed to operate using only two legs of a three-phase circuit. The CSB series has an input of 340 Vac to 550 Vac, and the CSW series has an input of 185 Vac to 550 Vac, in both single- and two-phase operation. This solution provides the same output power as a three-phase power supply. The CSB series are available with a 24-Vdc regulated output rated at 6-A, and a 48-Vdc regulated output rated at 3 A. The CSW series 24-Vdc power supplies are available with 5-A and 10-A capacities, and 12-Vdc to 15-Vdc adjustable versions rated for 7-A to 8-A, and 15-A to 16-A. A 48-Vdc model is rated for 5 A.

International Rectifier's IRS200x family of half-bridge, high-side and low-side 200-V driver ICs target low-voltage (24-V, 36-V and 48-V) and mid-voltage (60-V, 80-V and 100-V) motor-drive applications. This includes both three-phase inverters and half-bridge drivers. The IRS200x devices are offered in eight-pin SOIC and DIP packages and feature output voltages up to 20 V, turn-on current of 290 mA, turn-off current of 600 mA, and accept input logic levels of 3.3 V, 5 V and 15 V. The IRS200(1,3,4)(S) devices are available in 100,000-unit quantities at $0.60 each.

The output is floating and may be used in either polarity. Dual Stepdown Converter
Linear Technology's LTC3419/-1 dual-output, high-efficiency 2.25-MHz synchronous buck regulator can deliver up to 600 mA of continuous-output current from each channel. Using a constant-frequency current-mode architecture, the input-voltage range is 2.5 V to 5.5 V. It can generate two independent output voltages as low as 0.6 V. The LTC3419-1 fixed-output-voltage version is also available with 1.575-V and 1.8-V outputs. Efficiencies reach 96%. The LTC3419EDD and LTC3419-1EDD are both available in a DFN-8. The LTC3419EMS and LTC3419EMS-1 are available in an MSOP package. Pricing for all versions starts at $1.95 each for 1000 pieces.
Toshiba Electronics Europe's (TEE) generation of single-chip inverters is intended for brushless dc (BLDC) motor applications. Available in PWM and non-PWM versions, the chips combine high- and low-side drivers with six IGBTs, and integrated fast-recovery bootstrap diodes. The 250-V single-chip inverters offer a 1-A output current, while the 500-V versions are available with output currents of 1 A, 2 A or 3 A. All of the inverters can interface directly with a host microprocessor. The DIP26 package is 32 mm × 13 mm × 3.8 mm. Toshiba's six-input 500-V/2-A and 500-V/3-A single-chip inverters are in mass production now.

Sanyo Denki's San Ace 60CR is a 60-mm counter-rotating dc cooling fan available in 12-V S-speed and H-speed models. Maximum airflow is 2.26 m3/min, and static pressure is as high as 550 Pa. The fan features power consumption as low as 32.4 W, minimum noise generation is 64 dB and L10 life expectancy is 40,000 hours at 60°C. Optional features of the RoHS-compliant cooling fan include tachometer sensor and lock rotor sensor outputs, and PWM control. The fans are available now, priced at $36 each.
