Digitally Controlled Pot

Intersil has announced the ISL95810, a low-noise, low-power 256-tap digitally controlled potentiometer (DCP) for system applications requiring control, parameter adjustments or signal processing. The ISL95810 incorporates a single DCP with its associated registers, nonvolatile memory and an IC serial interface for direct communication between a host, the potentiometer and memory. The DCP can be used as a three-terminal potentiometer or as a two-terminal variable resistor.

The ISL95810 is the third device in the family (ISL95820 dual and ISL95840 quad) that uses a new architecture to reduce noise by eliminating the need for a charge pump. This architecture integrates a DCP on a monolithic CMOS integrated circuit. The ISL95810 comes in eight-lead MSOP or TDFN packages with suggested pricing of $1.02 for each IC in 10,000-unit quantities.

50-A Bridge Rectifiers

Central Semiconductor has released the CBR50-020P Series (Case FP) 50-A full-wave bridge rectifiers. These new devices feature a high current rating for bridge rectifiers in the Case FP package. The series is available with a maximum peak repetitive voltage rating of 200, 400, 600, 800 or 1000 V.

Case FP has four fast-on terminals and a large metal heatsink for maximum heat dissipation and low thermal resistance. The center of the device has a mounting hole for a No. 10 screw. The epoxy molding compound has UL Flammability Rating 94V-0. Prices for CBR50-020P start at $2.90 each for a 1000-piece quantity. Samples are available.

2-MHz PWM Switching Regulator

Micrel has announced the MIC2224, a high-efficiency, 2-MHz PWM synchronous buck-switching regulator optimized for RF power amplifiers in 2.5 G and 3 G CDMA and W-CDMA mobile phones. The device meets the most stringent Vout response specifications of next-generation cell phones.

The IC features a 2.7-V to 5.5-V input voltage range with a DAC-adjustable output voltage from 0.3 V up to 3.6 V. In PWM mode, the MIC2224 will supply more than 600 mA of output current through its fully integrated MOSFET switches. In bypass mode, it can source in excess of 1 A to the load. Operating at constant frequency with a duty cycle ranging from 0 to 100 percent, the MIC2224's 2-MHz switching rate and internal control loop are optimized for operation with the smallest possible components. The chip is available in 3- × 3-mm MLF-10L Pb-free packaging. Pricing starts at $1.91 for a 1000-piece quantity.

Rugged Pure Sine Inverter

Schaefer Inc. has introduced the GP-I-0600L Series 600 W, pure sine wave, ruggedized inverters. The GP-I-0600L Series is available in two standard inputs: 12 V and 24 Vdc. A 48-V option is also available. Single outputs are available in 115 V and 230 Vac versions. Outputs are adjustable and fully regulated to 1.5% or better. Inverters are designed for low EMI to have minimal affect on other onboard equipment.

All variations in the GP-I-0600L series have remote sensing, integrated low-battery cutoff, overload protection, overtemperature protection, reverse-input-polarity protection, short-circuit protection and a highly efficient standby circuit. Units work with all loads and offer a built-in remote controller port and a 120- × 285- × 350-mm aluminum chassis for harsh environments.

Efficiency runs about 88% and operating temperature range is 0° C to +50° C. Series pricing is from $276 each in quantities of 100.

Buck Converter with Boost and Catch Diodes

From Linear Technology, the LT3470 is a 40-V micro-power step-down dc-dc converter with integrated boost and catch diodes in a ThinSOT package. It operates from input voltages of 4 V to 40 V, delivering up to 200 mA of output current and optimizing it for 2-cell Li-Ion, wall adapter or automotive power sources. Burst Mode operation reduces quiescent current to only 26 µA, making it ideal for applications such as always-on automotive systems. The device delivers an entire solution footprint of only 50 mm2.

The LT3470 uses a hysteretic control scheme in conjunction with Burst Mode operation to reduce output ripple to less than 10 mVp-p and achieve and low quiescent current while using a tiny inductor and ceramic capacitor. Fast current limiting and hysteric control protects the LT3470 and external components against shorted outputs. Pricing starts at $2.30 for a 1000-piece quantity.
