Efficient DC-DC Controller

The MAX1953, PWM step-down dc-dc controller powers core, I/O, and memory supplies. Its 1 MHz current-mode operation provides transient response and reduces output size, cost, and capacitance. It addresses low-input 3.3V and 5V bus applications — without a charge pump and features adjustable current-limit and short-circuit protection — without current-sense resistors. Output voltage range extends from 0.8V to 0.86VIN. It provides loop bandwidth in excess of 100 kHz and is 92% efficient.

Tantalum SMT Capacitor

The T530 Series tantalum surface-mount capacitors employ a polymer material to replace the MnO2 used in traditional capacitors. This provides nonignition, self-healing, 125°C performance capability with a higher conductivity material that lowers the ESR. Packaged as multiple anodes to reduce depth that the signal must penetrate, this parallel arrangement further reduces the ESR to achieve high capacitance and an ESR of 7mW. Capacitance value range is 330μF to 1000μF, voltage range is 3V to 10V, and maximum temperature capability is 125°C.

PFC Controller

The FAN4822 PFC controller is an average-current boost-type IC, employing ZVS control for operation at high switching frequencies. Used for power supplies of 500W or more, it allows high power factor and low total harmonic distortion. The ZVS circuitry allows smaller, low-cost components to save space while reducing switching losses and noise caused by EMI. Features include undervoltage lockout, overvoltage protection, and input-voltage brownout protection.

40A Quarter-brick Converter

The QTA series of 40A quarter-brick-sized isolated dc/dc converters can deliver up to 40A total output of 1.2V to 2.5V and 35A at 3.3V, without needing an attached heat sink. The series has a 48V nominal input of 35V to 75V and meets input voltage transient requirements up to 100V for 100 ms. The unit measures 1.45 in. × 2.3 in., and has a 0.43 in. profile. The module uses synchronous rectification and features a full-load efficiency of 82% at 1.2Vout (87% at half-load) and 90.5% at 3.3Vout (92% at half-load).

Dual-Channel Power Regulator

The LX8817 is a 2.5A dual-channel positive-voltage linear regulator with one fixed and one adjustable output. Dual inputs provide separate sources for a circuit's control and power sections. Applications include 3.3V to 2.5V adjustable linear regulators, low-voltage logic supplies, active SCSI terminators, and PC peripherals. The surface-mountable SMDB3 is a trigger diode with a fixed voltage reference. Its rise time of 0.50 μs leads to the transfer of more energy in less time. Designated Type B82472-G, these 7 mm × 7 mm power inductors are magnetically shielded, with an inductance range from 1.0 μH to 22 μH.
