  • Automotive Qualified Power SO-8 MOSFETs in LFPAK

    NXP SEMICONDUCTORS has launched a full range of automotive power MOSFETs housed in the compact, thermally enhanced Loss Free PAcKage (LFPAK). The Q101 qualified LFPAK MOSFETs are optimized for high-density automotive applications with a footprint 46% smaller than that of DPAK whilst offering similar thermal performance. LFPAK is NXP's solution to the automotive requirement for a reliable, thermally enhanced power package with significantly reduced footprint size. The LFPAK package uses a copper clip design to reduce the package resistance and inductance which in turn reduces the RDS(ON) and switching losses of the MOSFET. LFPAK offers the designer a MOSFET with similar electrical and thermal performance to DPAK, with a footprint 46% smaller. The package design overcomes the thermal limitations of SO8, enabling thermal resistance comparable to those of larger power packages such as DPAK. The full NXP range of LFPAKs allows designers to pick and choose devices according to application requirements, while enabling them to change their selection when module requirements change.

  • Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors Provide High Capacitance At High Temperatures

    AVX CORPORATION has expanded its offering of multilayer ceramic capacitors to provide high capacitance values at temperatures of up to 150°C. Designated the X8L Series, the high temperature MLCC range has an elevated capacitance performance at a temperature range to accommodate applications in harsh environments. AVX's X8R Series and X8L Series MLCCs are RoHS-compliant and feature excellent low-loss performance and temperature stability. X8R capacitors demonstrate a capacitance variation over temperature of ±15% between -55°C and +150°C, while X8L products have a variation of ±15% between -55° to 125°C and +15/-40% from +125 to +150°C. Absolute capacitance will vary with temperature. The X8R Series capacitors demonstrate a capacitance variation over temperature of ±15% between -55°C and +150°C, while X8L products exhibit a variation of ±15% between -55° to 125°C and +15/-40% from +125 to +150°C. The new X8L capacitors deliver a CV of 0.47µF/25V in an 0805 package; a comparable X8R device is rated at 0.22µF/25 V. The X8L Series also extends the voltage availability from 50V (X8R) to 100V. Optional termination systems include AVX's patented FLEXITERM®, which ensures the reliability of the components by preventing damage caused by thermal cycling and mechanical flexing. Conductive epoxy terminations for hybrid applications are also available. Both series of capacitors are priced at competitive market levels and available with a lead time of 14 weeks.
