Four new members have joined CPES's Power Management Consortium (PMC), which works together to develop precompetitive technologies for power management within distributed power systems. The new members are Freescale Semiconductors, C&D Technologies, Primarion and NXP Semiconductors (formerly Philips Semiconductors). These companies join nine other semiconductor and power system suppliers: Delta Electronics, Hipro Electronics, Infineon Technologies, Intel, International Rectifier, Intersil, Linear Technology, National Semiconductor and Renesas Technology.
PMC research encompasses a variety of topics such as high-performance VRM/POL converters, magnetic integration in multiphase buck converters and 3-D integrated converters. PMC work also addresses the study of nonlinear control methods and digital control. Other areas under investigation include two-stage voltage regulators for future microprocessor in servers, a system two-stage architecture for laptops, a high-efficiency power architecture for servers, bus converters, high-frequency modeling and dynamic current sharing, and novel driving methods for ultrahigh-frequency synchronous rectifiers.
