Toyota hedges satellite radio bets

Toyota says it will offer XM and Sirius satellite radio in Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles. Next year, the automaker plans to expand the number of models for which XM is a dealer-installable option, and in 2006 it will begin offering XM radios as a factory-installed option in Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

"Information services and compelling entertainment options like XM Satellite Radio are rapidly becoming 'must-have' features for today's automotive buyer," says David Danzer, Group VP, Product Planning, Toyota Motor Sales.

"Penske Automotive Group and Sirius are 100% committed to making SIRIUS the satellite radio provider of choice for Toyota customers throughout the country," counters Greg Penske, president of Penske Automotive Group, which owns the largest Toyota dealership in the United States.

Adds Roger Penske, chairman and chief executive of automotive retailer United Auto Group, “We are focused on giving customers the very best in service and premium content as a part of our partnership with SIRIUS Satellite Radio."

Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles will use the SIRIUS Interior Glass-Mounted Antenna (SIGMA), which Sirius claims is the most integrated antenna installation solution available to date.
